Vani’s Musings

Dhruvataare

Posted on: April 12, 2007

It is one year since our favorite “Annavru” left us.

His voice is something that can be called “Kanchina KanTha”. I salute this humble human being and brilliant personality.

A Gaana Namana to this larger than life persona. I can only use superlatives of all adjectives to describe this soul.

all 25 songs listed are great and kelidaga kivige impu manakke tampu good listing vani

annavrige sangeetha matthu abhinaya eradu devaru kotta vara. samskara itthu avarige. raj was and will be the only actor who won a national award for singing.

btw, narayan knows quite a few raj songs:
** vaara banthamma
** jenina holeyo
** belli moodithu
** thai thai bangari
** baa mutthu koduve kandane
** kande hariya kande

he “sings” a few lines from these songs.

(vani, song no. 8 & 9 repeat aagide. plz include ‘nadamaya’).

Does anyone know the total number of songs he sang (on his own)

My all time fav, annavru song is “Ninna nanna manavu serithu” from Bhagyavantharu…

Just brilliant composition, wonderful voice from behind and great acting to add to it.

Also, “Yelli Mareyade” from Bhaktha Kumbara…

What a performance. whole movie, if watched, can convert an theist to believe in Vittala…Ultimate performance by Raj aptly supported by Leelavathi.

Bellur
vijay avara Q ge A kodi bega raj yesht avara kanthadalli
hadiddru

from sampatthige saval to shabdhavedhi, raj acted in 54 films. in that, 3 were as guest roles (bhagyavantha, shiva mecchida kannappa, gandhada gudi 2).

so even if you take 4 songs per film, it comes to 204 songs (that he sang for himself). so plus or minus 10 songs….around 215 songs ittkolona.

sometime back, i made a list of songs where raj sang for others. got around 100 of them posted it in WIKI

Vivek Rai of Kuvempu University describes Raj as namma Kannada meshtru–bhaashe bagge, naadina bagge abhimaana beLasidavaru anta. How true!!

i love his “ganga yamuna sangama” the most.

Nanna favourites

Aneya mele ambari kande….
Sapthapadhi iduve sapthapadhi…
Banigondhu yelle yellidhe….
Brahmanandanda Omkara…..
Hrudaya haadanu haadithu…..
Aradhisuve madanaari ….
Nariya seere kadda…..
Ashwamedha -title song….
Amma neenu namagagi alongwith PB
Vasantha kalabandaaga….
lots more

RIP.. Ganagandharva Dr Raj

It is really a pity that I am going through this old entry of yours only now. Jeeva hoovagide was a song i listened to a couple of hours back, since i am a die hard ilayaraja fan. I was very much suprised to know that dr rajkumar himself sang the song. Not a single note was off tune, it was such brilliantly rendered to perfection. And when I proceeded to read about Dr Rajkumar, totally out of curiousity, it struck me that he was such a disciplined man and above all, one who deserves to be called a human being more than anybody else we know of. A teetotaler and a non smoker all his life, he never wished to publicise his charity offerings and proved to be the epitome of discipline. May his soul rest in peace and may the world learn about, if not adopt qualities such as humility and love from a legend and icon like him. We salute to him.
